October 20, 2015, from Nigel Aslin:I have only recently become aware of your website and found it extremely interesting, particularly the old photographs of my Dad’s former colleagues and one of which (4/10) shows my two elder brothers on the left hand side at a social event. I too remember similar social events as I grew up. As you may know my dad joined Bailey Meters in 1949 when we moved to Coulsdon from Haywards Heath in Sussex. I was born that March. I remember he had several roles during his career at Baileys but I only really remember his contract engineering days. I worked at Purley Way in in my summer holidays in later years. Sadly one evening in 1975, aged 62, he suffered a massive heart attack whilst gardening and never recovered. I remember all his work colleagues attending his funeral at Surrey & Sussex crematorium. Jean, his wife and my mother, died aged 70 in a nursing home in Weston super Mare having been ill with MS for many years. My eldest brother Roger is now 74 and living in Taunton. Sadly my elder brother Philip, aged 71, died earlier this year in California. My wife and I now live in France. Particularly as this year marks the 40th anniversary of his untimely death I thought that you might like a photo of Eric in his later days of the 26 years he worked at Baileys and attach herewith (click here). I would be pleased, if you think it appropriate, if you post this note and the photo on your website in case anyone will still remember him and our family.
